baasskap (uncountable) (South Africa) Dominion, control, especially of white South Africans over non-whites. 1994, Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom, Abacus 2010, p. 195: Africxan teachers were not permitted to criticize the government or any school authority. It was intellectual baasskap, a way of institutionalising inferiority.
